The only high chair you should ever purchase

In the second of my 10 Minute Topics (my first one can be found here) I thought I would post to Crash Test Daddy. Having started the blog over one year ago, I haven't paid it any attention at all.

Onto the topic - the only high chair you should ever purchase.

Like most pieces of equipment directed at being a parent, there is no end to the variety of high chairs. You can spend quite a lot of money on these things. And I should know. We own four at last count. But we only use one, the Antilop from IKEA.

Antilop is probably the cheapest and most simple high chair out there. It is this simplicity which makes it a key piece of kit for the family. We use this chair a minimum of twice a day every day. And so we clean the chair a minimum of twice a day every day. Cleaning. Yep. That is why I love this chair. The tray pops off entirely and so can be cleaned in the sink. The chair has no nooks for food to hide in, so you can get the entire thing clean in moments. We have even put the chair through the dishwasher before! The legs are simple, and again have no places for food to hide. A simple wipe down usually suffices.

The chair is reasonably portable. The legs clip off and lie in the bottom of our boot quite easily. The tray and chair are separate and so can be placed in the boot or elsewhere around the car. It takes moments to reassemble. We have a travel high chair which clamps onto a table and while this chair takes up slightly less space, it is a lot more complex, and so takes longer to assemble, and longer to clean. The latter of these is not what you want to be doing when you are out and about at friends or on holiday!

There you have it. If you are losing the will to live at meal times because it takes so long to clean your high chair, or you are a soon-to-be new parent wondering what you will need to buy, the answer is simple. Head to IKEA, and spend £13 on an Antilop with tray. You will thank me.
